Cultivating Compliance & Certification Knowledge Within SIPPO Supported Market Actors
As part of the Swiss Import Promotion Programme’s (SIPPO) phase 3 strategy, the programme is focusing on ensuring that the “last mile” export promotion services functions within market systems are optimally delivered. These market systems consist of Market Intelligence (MI), Compliance & Certification (CC), and Marketing & Promotion (MP). Furthermore, with a focus on its core transversal topic areas, Digitalisation and Sustainability, with dedicated strategies to enhance export promotion services to address Climate Action and Gender Equality through the environmental and social dimensions of Sustainability.
SIPPO commenced the compliance and certification enhancement process by conducting a baseline survey to identify BSOs’ gaps and needs in compliance and certification (CC), including their familiarity with actors in the CC network. Based on the survey results, SIPPO supported joint training sessions for BSOs and market actors—delivered in collaboration with International Trade Centre (ITC)—to broaden their CC knowledge. SIPPO in collaboration with the BSOs is currently co-developing a practical guide on meeting EU sustainability requirements for BSOs and market actors to use when advising and supporting companies.
In the first semester of 2026, under the market system Compliance and Certification, SIPPO in partnership with the ITC and qualified international experts delivered sessions on topics covering sustainability frameworks, corporate social responsibility, EU legislation, corporate sustainability due diligence directive, sustainability standards, and Supporting Businesses on Compliance with Sustainability Certifications.
The series of sessions positioned sustainability compliance and certification as strategic business opportunities, enabling exporters to develop competitive, environmentally and socially responsible business models. Market actors benefited by-
• Strengthening their capacity and services to advise exporters on sustainability legislation, certification and due diligence.
• Improving knowledge on market access through better compliance with EU sustainability requirements.
• Encouraging cooperation between BSOs, exporters, certification bodies and international partners.
Through ongoing capacity development, the market actors and BSOs will be better equipped to provide practical guidance, tools, and support services.
