Biofach 2019: SIPPO supports BSOs for successful trade fair participation

SIPPO collaborated closely with the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti), who lead a group of South African companies producing organic products to Germany to showcase their products at  Biofach trade fair, in Nuremberg from 13 – 16 February 2019.

This year the event attracted more than 51,500 visitors, 50% from outside Germany, and 3,273 exhibitors with a wealth of products on show from 98 countries. Visitors were able to discover inspiring products and innovations, novelties and countless ideas on food trends and product ranges from all around the world.

Hourly seminars offered by the “Forum Biofach” Congress provided an ideal platform for knowledge transfer and networking and attracted around 9,500 delegates and participants who were updated on the latest developments and trends within the industry, as well as challenges and issues of the future. The message was clear – the demand for organic foods remains high and the organic sector is growing at the global level.

The promotion of the organic sector and products is also one of the projects identified in South Africa’s Industrial Policy Action Plan (IPAP) as the sector represents a high-value niche sub-sector that has the potential to create jobs in both the primary agriculture and agro-processing stages of the value-chain.
